Elaine McDermott, a native of New Orleans, resides on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She is the author of Kumquats in Winter, Walter Anderson’s Island, Flying on the Wings of Dawn, and By the Rivers of Babylon. For her presentation of Poetry: Understanding the Human Condition, Elaine received a grant from Mississippi Humanities Council. She was named 2017 Poet of the Year by the Mississippi Poetry Society and was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award. She received Short List recognition in the Faulkner-Wisdom Poetry Competition. Elaine is a former educator, retired from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.


Ms. McDermott will be releasing her new book of poetry, Out of Darkness, Light in the Fall of 2019.
